Finally, some snow to ease our drought

 

Today, April 1, 2024

We got about a foot of snow last week here in the Thunder Bay area. That was the first snowfall since early January. The ground was bare almost the entire winter. Red Lake did not get this dump but does have some snow, just less than this.

Hopefully that snow and a lot of rain helps your draught situation but the mosquitoes and black flies and ticks will be down and well as the fires. Looking at the forecast it looks like warm days with longer than 12 hours above freezing temps are coming this coming weekend. BTW did you see any moose or wolves on your trail cams?

Yeah, I see double-digit temps showing up in the forecast for mid-April at Red Lake. If so, I will move my ice-out to as much as a week earlier.
No moose this winter and way fewer deer. I would guess that 90 per cent of the deer died of starvation last spring as a result of the deep snow in April. There are barely any left. Not surprisingly I got fewer trail cam shots of wolves this winter.
